September is Internet Safety

September...In the library K's hear stories that reinforce their alphabet study, and poems that match the letter of the week, so ask your K if they remember any poems. Some are easy like the Gobble poem, and others are too hard to learn but fun--sometimes we even get to act them out like Hippity Hop. They heard about Owen by Kevin Henkes for the study of O, and Little Red Riding Hood flannel board story for the H sound. They love the color sheets that match the letter and the floor puzzle play on Fun Friday's, if they have library the second time in a week.
Also, this month, first through fifth grade students learn about Internet safety using the iSafe curriculum. We cover the cyber community, cyber safety, cyber bullying, using age appropriate lessons. They will be bringing booklets home, so be sure to ask your child about what they learned, a wonderful time for safety discussions. The students seem to enjoy these lessons, learn a lot, and I believe it is one of the most important lessons I teach all year. The Internet is their future and they, along with their families, must learn how to keep safe on the Internet in our rapidly changing world.
